Turn on most reality TV and you get a very narrow slice of Black life. We think there's a better story: smart, funny, driven young people at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, working toward their futures. That's the show we want to build for Nagast TV.
HBCUs produce a big share of the country's Black professionals, from doctors and engineers to teachers, lawyers and artists, and every campus is full of stories. But reality TV rarely follows students who are building something. We want to put that on screen.
The idea is a series that follows students through real college life: the classes and late nights, the competitions and performances, the friendships, the pressure and the wins. We want it to celebrate achievement and still be honest about what students deal with.
We also want students behind the camera. A lot of HBCUs have strong communications, film and media programs. Working with those departments means students aren't only the subjects of the show. They'd help produce it, learn real production skills and leave with professional credits.
We want the money to be shared too. We're working on a model where the students and schools involved get a share of the revenue, and everyone who works on the show gets credit. The exact terms aren't settled yet, and we'll explain them publicly once they are.
Right now we're looking for partner schools that would work with us through their media programs, sponsors who want to back positive programming about Black students, and producers willing to mentor. If that's you, reach out on our contact page. The show is still a concept, so details may change as we talk to partners. You can see what we already stream on Nagast TV.
